DPT-IPV (mixed four) vaccination

Information on DPT-IPV (mixed four) vaccination

DPT-IPV (DPT-IPV) vaccination is a vaccine (DPT-IPV) that is a mixture of diphtheria (D), pertussis (P), tetanus (T) and inactivated polio (IPV) vaccines.
As the first period, the first inoculation will be given 3 times and the additional inoculation will be given once. In addition, as the second term, at the age of 11 to 12 years old (6th grade of elementary school), a mixed vaccine of diphtheria and tetanus will be inoculated once as DT (mixture of two types).

Symptoms of diphtheria (D)

It is a droplet infection of diphtheria and develops in the mouth and nose.
Symptoms include high fever, sore throat and strong inflammation. The toxins produced by the bacteria may cause myocardial damage and nerve paralysis.
The number of outbreaks in Japan is about 0 to 1 per year.

Symptoms of pertussis (P)

It is caused by a droplet infection of pertussis.
Pertussis usually begins with cold-like symptoms. Infants cannot breathe due to coughing and inhale suddenly after coughing, making a whistle-like sound. Lips may turn blue (cyanosis) or cramps may occur. It can cause serious complications such as pneumonia and encephalitis, which can be fatal in babies.

Tetanus (T) symptoms

It is transmitted when Clostridium tetani in the soil enters the body through the wound.
The toxins in the fungus can cause the masseter muscles to cramp and prevent the mouth from opening, or the body to become stiff and cause severe opisthotonus. When it becomes severe, the whole body becomes stiff due to the stimulus of sunlight and sound, and it gradually becomes more intense and may lead to death.

Symptoms of polio (IPV)

Polio infection is transmitted by the invasion of the virus excreted in human feces, either orally or through the pharynx. The incubation period is 4-35 days.
Most people have no symptoms, but about 5% to 10% have mild upper respiratory tract inflammation or gastroenteritis symptoms called summer cold syndrome, which are prevalent in the summer.
One in 1,000 to 2,000 infected people is paralyzed, and some remain paralyzed forever.

Effect of vaccination

Immunity in the body can prevent infection from diphtheria, pertussis, tetanus, and polio. Basic immunity is completed by inoculating 3 times in the first phase and giving 1 booster. It is said that the antitoxin production performance after booster vaccination will last for more than 10 years, but in order to keep the amount of antitoxin above the defense level, it is necessary to receive booster vaccination of DT (mixture of two types) at the age of 11-12 years.

About side reactions

The main side reaction after DPT-IPV inoculation is a local reaction, with a 5% or higher probability of redness, induration, and swelling at the site of inoculation. In addition, fever, diarrhea, rhinorrhea, cough, and rash are also seen with a probability of 5% or more.
Rare and severe side reactions, of unknown frequency, may include convulsions, shock, and anaphylaxis-like symptoms.

Precautions for inoculation

As a general rule, vaccinations should be given on a good day. If your child is not in good health, consult your doctor before deciding whether or not to inoculate.
In addition, you cannot be vaccinated in the following cases.

  1. If you have a clear fever (usually above 37.5 degrees)
  2. When it is clear that you have a serious acute illness
  3. If you have had anaphylaxis due to the components of the vaccination solution you should receive
  4. If you have a disease with apparently abnormal immune function or if you are receiving treatment that causes immunosuppression
  5. In addition, when the doctor determines that the condition is inappropriate

General precautions after vaccination

  1. Observe your child at a medical institution or get in touch with your doctor for 30 minutes after vaccination. Sudden side reactions may occur during this time.
  2. Watch out for side reactions for a week after inoculation.
  3. Keep the inoculation site clean. You can take a bath, but do not rub the inoculation site.
  4. Avoid strenuous exercise on the day of inoculation.
  5. If you experience any abnormal reactions or changes in your physical condition at the site of inoculation after inoculation, see a doctor immediately.
