DT (mixed two types) vaccination

Information on DT (mixed two types) vaccination

DT (mixed two) vaccination is a vaccine that combines diphtheria (D) and tetanus (T) vaccines.
DPT vaccine (DT) is given once at the age of 11 to 12 years as the second stage after the completion of the first stage and four times.

Symptoms of diphtheria (D)

It is a droplet infection of diphtheria and develops in the mouth and nose.
Symptoms include high fever, sore throat and strong inflammation. The toxins produced by the bacteria may cause myocardial damage and nerve paralysis.
The number of outbreaks in Japan is about 0 to 1 per year.

Tetanus (T) symptoms

It is transmitted when Clostridium tetani in the soil enters the body through the wound.
The toxins in the fungus can cause the masseter muscles to cramp and prevent the mouth from opening, or the body to become stiff and cause severe opisthotonus. When it becomes severe, the whole body becomes stiff due to the stimulus of sunlight and sound, and it gradually becomes more intense and may lead to death.
Chiba Prefecture is said to be an area where the soil is contaminated with Clostridium tetani.

Effect of vaccination

Immunity in the body can prevent infection from diphtheria and tetanus.
Inoculate 3 types of mixture 4 times in 1 period, and inoculate DT (2 types of mixture) once in 2 periods. Since it is not enough to inoculate the three-kind mixture four times in one period, DT (two-kind mixture) is inoculated as an additional inoculation at the age of 11 to 12 years.

About side reactions

Most of the side reactions after DT inoculation are local reactions. By 7 days after inoculation, about 30.7% have local reactions such as redness, swelling, and lumps. Local reactions subside spontaneously in a few days, but lumps may remain for months. Fever of 37.5 degrees or more and less than 38.5 degrees after inoculation is seen in about 0.1% on the day of inoculation, about 0.4% on the first day, and about 0.2% on the second day. Fever of 38.5 degrees or higher is also seen in about 0.0% on the day of inoculation, about 0.1% on the first day, and about 0.1% on the second day.
