measles-rubella vaccination

Information on measles-rubella vaccination

For measles / rubella vaccination, a measles-rubella mixed vaccine is used, and a total of 2 doses are given, the 1st stage and the 2nd stage.
It is said that more than 95% of people can acquire immunity against measles virus and rubella virus by inoculating the measles-rubella combination vaccine. In addition, by receiving two vaccinations, many people who could not be immunized by one vaccination can be immunized.
If you wish, you can get a measles or rubella vaccine alone.

* Vaccinations for “measles,” “rubella,” and “mixed measles and rubella” for people other than the target age for routine vaccination are voluntary.

You can search for medical institutions that carry out vaccinations for “measles,” “rubella,” and “mixed measles and rubella” as voluntary vaccinations on the site “Chiba Medical Navi.” (“Search by purpose”-> Select a medical institution / region and “Search by vaccination”)

Measles symptoms

Measles is caused by airborne, droplet, or contact infections of the measles virus.
After being infected with the virus, the asymptomatic period (incubation period) lasts about 10 to 12 days. After that, symptoms begin to appear, but the main symptoms are fever, cough, runny nose, rheumatism, and redness. For 3 to 4 days after the onset of symptoms, fever of around 38 degrees, cough, runny nose, and rheumatism continued, and when I thought that the fever was about to drop, it became a high fever of 39 to 40 degrees, and red rashes from the neck and face. Begins to appear, and then the onset spreads throughout the body. The high fever disappears in 3 to 4 days, and the rash gradually disappears, but the pigmentation remains for a while.
It causes complications in about 30%, and the main complications include bronchitis, pneumonia, otitis media, and encephalitis. Of the 100 measles patients, otitis media is about 7-9 and pneumonia is about 6. Encephalitis occurs in about 1 in 1,000 people.
In addition, measles may develop severe encephalitis called subacute sclerosing panencephalitis (SSPE) after several to ten years. This is seen in about 1 in 100,000 people with measles.
Of those who have measles, about 1 in 1,000 may die.

Rubella symptoms

Rubella is caused by a droplet infection of the rubella virus.
Even if infected with the virus, symptoms do not appear immediately, and there is an incubation period of about 14 to 21 days. After that, the main symptoms are red rash, which is lighter than measles, fever, and swollen lymph nodes behind the neck. Other symptoms may include coughing, runny nose, and red eyes (red eye conjunctiva). In the case of children, the onset and fever often heal in about 3 days, so it is sometimes called “three days.”
Joint pain, thrombocytopenic purpura, and encephalitis have been reported as complications. Thrombocytopenic purpura is associated with about 1 in 3,000 rubella patients, and encephalitis is associated with about 1 in 6,000 rubella patients. If you take it after becoming an adult, it tends to become more severe than when you were a child.
When a pregnant woman gets rubella early in pregnancy, a disease called congenital rubella syndrome can give birth to babies with disabilities such as heart disease, cataracts, and hearing loss.

Effect of vaccination

Over 95% of vaccinated children can acquire immunity. Immunity in the body can prevent measles and rubella.
Since one inoculation is not enough, inoculate twice. Stronger immunity can be obtained by inoculating twice.

About side reactions

Major side effects of measles-rubella combination vaccine

(Used when vaccination against measles and rubella is carried out at the same time. Usually, this vaccine is given.) The
main side reactions are fever (about 20% of those who have been vaccinated) and rash (of those who have been vaccinated). About 10% of them). These symptoms are common between 5 and 14 days after vaccination. Fever, rash, and itching, which are considered to be hypersensitivity symptoms, may occur immediately after inoculation and the next day, but these symptoms usually subside within 1 to 3 days. Occasionally, redness, swelling, induration (lumps), and swollen lymph nodes may be seen at the site of inoculation, all of which are transient and usually disappear within a few days.
Rare and severe side reactions have been reported to include anaphylactic symptoms (shock symptoms, urticaria, dyspnea, etc.), acute thrombocytopenic purpura (purpura, nasal bleeding, oral mucosal bleeding, etc.), encephalitis and convulsions. increase.

Major side effects of measles vaccine

(Used when only vaccination against measles) The
main side reactions are fever of 37.5 degrees or more and less than 38.5 degrees (about 5% of those who have been vaccinated), 38.5, mainly 5 to 14 days after vaccination. There is a degree of fever (about 8% of those who have been vaccinated) and measles-like development (about 6% of those who have been vaccinated). However, the period of fever is usually 1-2 days, and the onset may be close to natural measles from a small number of erythema and hills. In addition, redness, swelling, febrile convulsions (about 1 in 300), urticaria, etc. may be observed at the site of inoculation, but most of them are transient.
Anaphylaxis-like symptoms, encephalitis encephalopathy (less than 1 person per 1 to 1.5 million inoculations), and acute thrombocytopenic purpura (about 1 person per 1 million inoculations) are known as rare and severe side reactions.
Subacute sclerosing panencephalitis (SSPE) that occurs after vaccination is extremely rare, and it has been reported that it is less than one-tenth of the case (1 in 100,000) when infected with the natural measles virus. increase.

Major side effects of rubella vaccine

(Used when only vaccination against rubella) The
main side reactions are rash, hives, erythema, itching, fever, swollen lymph nodes, and joint pain.
Rare and severe side reactions include shock and anaphylaxis-like symptoms, and acute thrombocytopenic purpura (about 1 per million inoculations) has been reported.

Precautions for inoculation

As a general rule, vaccinations should be given on a good day. If your child is not in good health, consult your doctor before deciding whether or not to inoculate.
In addition, you cannot be vaccinated in the following cases.

  1. If you have a clear fever (usually above 37.5 degrees)
  2. When it is clear that you have a serious acute illness
  3. If you have had anaphylaxis due to the components of the vaccination solution you should receive
  4. If you have a disease with apparently abnormal immune function or if you are receiving treatment that causes immunosuppression
  5. In addition, when the doctor determines that the condition is inappropriate

General precautions after vaccination

  1. Observe your child at a medical institution or get in touch with your doctor for 30 minutes after vaccination. Sudden side reactions may occur during this time.
  2. Watch out for side reactions for a week after inoculation.
  3. Keep the inoculation site clean. You can take a bath, but do not rub the inoculation site.
  4. Avoid strenuous exercise on the day of inoculation.
  5. If you experience any abnormal reactions or changes in your physical condition at the site of inoculation after inoculation, see a doctor immediately.
